Tyler Roberts is a woodwind performer originally from Bonney Lake, Washington state. He spent his first 18 years in his hometown of Bonney Lake, joining the band on clarinet at the age of eleven. For college, Tyler went to Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music performance on clarinet as the outstanding graduate of the music department for his year. Tyler has also performed on saxophone at a high level. While living in East Tennessee, Tyler performed with the Scruffy City Orchestra as the principal clarinetist, and performed in numerous church music gigs and solo opportunities. In 2023 Tyler won Carson-Newman University's annual performer's competition in the instrumental category. Tyler is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in clarinet performance from the University of New Mexico.
Beyond the performance of music, Tyler is passionate about teaching and composing music. Tyler has been teaching music locally since shortly after he moved to Albuquerque in January of 2024, beginning in Los Lunas. Before moving to New Mexico, Tyler often taught clarinet and saxophone for the band camps of local high schools, and gave private lessons to local students. Often in his free time, Tyler works on composition projects on his computer. While in college he won the Delta Omicron Alpha Gamma chapter's composition competition twice, and had performed his arrangements with the East Tennessee Wind Quintet.
Tyler loves this quote by Leonard Bernstein:
"I can't live one day without hearing music, playing it, studying it or thinking about it."
