Evaluation Programs
Trinity College London Programs
The Albuquerque Institute of Music prepares students for the examination in performance and music theory conducted by the Trinity College London. Trinity music exams are officially recognized by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation, and by education authorities worldwide. The examinations begin with the Initial Grade and increase in difficulty from there.
There are no prerequisites for examination either in performance or music theory. In performance, students are evaluated on the basis of musical pieces, scales, sight reading, and improvising. In music theory, students are graded on the knowledge of technical language of music, which is supplemented by comprehensive workbooks.

At the Festival, each student will prepare 2 pieces of music to be performed solo, and by memory. One piece is required from the current NFMC bulletin, and the second piece is the student's choice. Elementary level and above must choose a piece written by a non-American born composer. The judges will rate the student's performance of each piece and give helpful comments which will be shared with students. The ratings range from Superior (5), to Needs Improvement (1), Student ratings are calculated each year, and when the student reaches 15 points, they receive their first trophy. Points continue to accumulate, and trophies are awarded at each 15 point interval. (30, 45, etc.)
