Congratulations to Kate Shao on her OUTSTANDING performance with the New Mexico Philharmonic on Sunday, October 6th, 2024! Her rendition of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue brought the house to its feet with a standing ovation, in front of a SOLD-OUT audience.

The program featured an exciting lineup:

• Coleridge-Taylor's Ballade in A Minor

• Saint-Saëns’s Cello Concerto No. 1, performed by cellist Sydney Tasker, this year’s first-place winner in the string division of the Jackie McGehee Young Artists’ Competition

• Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, brought to life by Kate, the first-place winner in the piano division

• Tchaikovsky's iconic Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy

Just over 100 years ago, George Gershwin redefined American music with Rhapsody in Blue, his concerto for jazz orchestra, and Kate delivered a memorable performance worthy of this historic piece. We are incredibly proud of Kate and her remarkable artistry!
