Woodwind Lessons

Woodwind Lessons

Beginning students will focus on sound production, tone, technique, theory, and can quickly learn to play and read melodies. As students progress they will have the opportunity to play different styles of music and perform full pieces of music. Students' own interests, whether classical, jazz, improvisation, popular music, or anything else, can be incorporated into the study of any instrument.

Students may rent/buy their woodwind instruments at Baum’s or they can buy their instrument from the website woodwind brasswind (wwbw.com). It's important to note that the purchase of several reeds is an important part of setting up any instrument (other than flute). For the saxophone and clarinet, a good overall recommendation is vandoren or D'addario in strength 2.5, usually they come in boxes of 10. For oboe, reeds are an entire conversation and part of lessons but generally Jones brand (also found on wwbw.com) is a good starting point, medium soft or soft strength.

“If music be the food of love, play on.”
