Marjorie

Piano Teacher

Marjorie Lanning Sons began her journey in music at the age of four under the meticulous guidance of her father, Russell Lanning - a renowned music editor, Bach scholar, and a leading exponent of the Leschetizky method, which emphasizes performance excellence.

She holds a B.A. in Education with a minor in piano from the University of Florida and has completed 30 hours of advanced study in duo-piano and classical piano at the University of Miami. Additionally, she trained for four years in pipe organ at the University of New Mexico, where she won two prestigious Florence Hageman competitions. This rich and diverse educational foundation enables her to teach piano with a focus on brilliance, clarity, accuracy, warmth, and a nuanced expression of human emotion—delighting both performers and audiences alike.

Marjorie's 12 years of teaching in public schools in Miami and Albuquerque honed her ability to connect with young students, understand their unique needs, and help them develop their musical identity. She has also taught piano privately since the age of 12, emphasizing the 42 graded pianistic skills essential for success in auditions and competitions. Her students benefit from comprehensive technical training that prepares them for concert solos, duets, duo-piano performances, instrumental accompaniment, and embellished hymn-playing.

In addition to teaching, Marjorie is an active performer at celebrations, special events, and places of worship, where she integrates piano and organ music with choral arrangements. Her performances showcase her versatility and dedication to bringing music to life across a variety of settings.
