Voice

Marie is a lifelong singer and began writing songs as soon as her fingers knew their way to three chords on the guitar. She received her voice teaching certificate from the Transformational Voice Institute in Portland, OR, in 2013, after a one year apprenticeship with Linda Brice, MA. She uses body-based, vocal methodologies combined with modern improvisational techniques that she developed in her many workshops in the Bobby McFerrin (Don’t Worry, Be Happy) camp. This combination gives the learning artist a firm foundation to find and explore their true, authentic voice, no matter the musical genre. She approaches voice teaching as a transformative healing art. Marie has guided a broad range of artists, including singer songwriters, actors, poets, storytellers, transgender people, people recovering from vocal injuries, beginning singers, and singers with backgrounds in jazz, folk, rock, opera, heavy metal, steampunk, choral and worship singers, and many people wanting to build fluidity and power in their true authentic voices whether it be for performance or self-development.

Guitar

Marie loves helping beginning through beginning-intermediate guitarists gain an ergonomically healthy approach to playing the guitar in the folk / rock / singer songwriter genres. Her teaching lends itself to solid pick and rhythm techniques. As an accomplished self-accompanist, she guides solo-performers to successfully blend singing while playing the guitar as she shares years of performance secrets.
